Organising with folders

Okay, next, lets structure the segments a bit better. Folders can group segments by character, part, draft, or whatever helps you find them again.

Create folder

In the sidebar's segment area, use the folder creation action. Make Alasdair, then an Old folder inside it. Drag Alasdair - Chapter II into Alasdair.

Create Alasdair - Chapter III and move it into Alasdair too. Leave it empty for the next exercise.

The two chapter excerpts should now be arranged like this:

Epitaph of the Undying
└── Alasdair
    ├── Alasdair - Chapter II
    ├── Alasdair - Chapter III
└── Old # For old drafts

Keep the structure useful for you 🫵

Nest, rename, and rearrange folders as the story changes. A folder name won't become a printed chapter heading; those choices you will make when assembling your manuscript.

Moving a segment keeps its document and context together. The manuscript can use a different order from the sidebar.

Put alternatives somewhere visible

When you have an earlier version to keep, you can put it in Old. Leave that folder empty for now. Its sidebar actions can exclude the folder from project word count or hide it from the outline.

Those are separate choices. The segment guide has a quick reference if you need it.
