Creating a map

Let's put The Crown on a map. For now, a rough city and a road will do. The coastline can wait; Alasdair does need to get on with his day.

Open Cartography

Open Cartography from the project navigation. If it's missing, enable Cartography in Settings → Modules for this project.

Turning the module off hides it from the workspace and keeps your maps, pins, and regions.

Make a small working map

Choose New Map. In Create New Map, choose a size preset or open the custom dimensions controls, then choose Create Map. The preview shows the starting proportions.

Edit the name at the top to The Crown and surroundings. Press Enter or leave the field to finish. The selector beside the name lets you switch between maps.

Draw enough to answer your question

The Drawing layer holds the artwork. Use Terrain for land, Roads for paths, Text for labels, and the sprite library for map elements. Adjustment selects placed elements for editing; Eraser removes artwork.

Try drawing a city area and a road for Alasdair's route. A text label can name the city on the drawing. To open the city's concept from the map, we'll add a linked pin next.

Move around the canvas

Use Pan, middle-button drag, or Alt with a left drag to move around. Scroll over the canvas to zoom. The tool dock's Keyboard shortcuts control lists the tools for the active layer.

Undo and redo let you revisit drawing steps. If you can't find a tool, check the layer: terrain and roads belong to Drawing; concept pins and regions belong to Interactive.

Connect places and keep the original

Switch to Interactive to add places and markers, starting with The Crown.

Export map saves a PNG for reading or sharing. It captures the image, without editable pins or concept connections. Keep workspace backups for those.
