Themes and appearance

You'll spend a fair amount of time here. Make it somewhere you like looking at.

Choose the surrounding light

Open the appearance menu in the application header. Choose light or dark mode and a palette. Try it with a scene and its sidebar open so you can judge the text, selection, and smaller controls together.

Global or just this project?

Project-specific appearance lets a project keep its own mode, palettes, and fonts. Turn it off to follow your global appearance settings.

A project override can help you recognise which story you're in. Global settings keep the same surroundings wherever you're working.

Choose fonts you can read

You can use different fonts for navigation, titles, and prose. The editor settings cover document appearance in more detail.

Add custom fonts from local font files in settings. Try a few paragraphs, including italics and punctuation, before settling on one. A beautiful heading doesn't always make a readable chapter.

Keep the writing comfortable

If you use a background image, adjust its opacity until the writing is easy to read, or remove it. The background is there to keep you company, not win a staring contest with the prose.
