Notes

A question mid-scene doesn't always need an answer mid-scene. Leave yourself a note and keep writing.

Leave yourself a useful question

Open Alasdair, then the Notes tab in his context sidebar. Choose Create Note and write:

Decide which appearances Alasdair uses in public.

We can come back to that while developing him. It doesn't have to hold up the next paragraph.

Attach the reminder to the right thing

Put a question about the character with his concept. For a question about a particular scene, use that segment's Notes area.

Open Alasdair - Chapter II and its Notes tab. The route reminder from the segment sidebar exercise should be here:

Check Alasdair’s route from the empyreal court to the market streets.

If you skipped that exercise, choose Create Note and add it now. This reminder stays with the chapter and out of the manuscript text. Check which document is open when switching tabs or panes before adding a note.

Come back and make the decision

When revising, read the note and update the character or scene. You can add the answer to the note, keep it as a record, or remove it once you've dealt with it.

When a note grows

A reminder can turn into something larger. If you've worked out a new place or character, give it a concept. If you've started writing the scene itself, move that writing into a segment.

Keep the note for whatever still needs your attention.
