Concepts
Let's start with Alasdair. He's a character, so we'll give him a concept: somewhere to keep his background as we work out the story.
First concept
In the project sidebar's Concepts section, choose Create Concept. Name it Alasdair, then write a few lines in its document:
A former member of the queen’s elite guard who now works as an assassin. Few know of his power to shape shift.
That's a good enough starting point. You can add to his background as you write. For now, a former guard with a rather questionable career change gives us plenty to work with.
What to put where
| Material | Home | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Background for something in the story | Concept | Alasdair can change his appearance. |
| The narrative | Segment | Alasdair walks through the market streets. |
| A question or reminder | Note | Would he actually reply like that? |
We'll get to segments later in the guide.
Reuse the concept as the story grows
When Alasdair appears in a scene, a mention can link his name to this profile. The same goes for a place on a map or an event in chronology. They all use the concept you've already made.
That's the idea behind no double work: build up the material once and keep using it.
Keep Alasdair open. Next, we'll create his Character type and add a few more details in Sidebar and Types.
