Bara, creator of Writality

A member of my Discord showed me ForgeTales recently. It is new to me, and it looks really promising.

I really like the design. It is inspiring to see another team putting this much care into a worldbuilding tool, and I think it is a cool alternative. I am happy there are more and more options for writers, especially ones that do not make you pay a subscription. Different people need different tools, and having more choice is a good thing.

Why I built Writality anyway

From the features they currently advertise, ForgeTales does not yet seem to cover everything already in Writality. For example, Writality has maps with layers and pins, kanban boards, and a dialogue and voices workflow; I could not confirm equivalents in ForgeTales' public feature overview. That is a comparison of the published information, rather than a hands-on verdict. The price is also quite expensive to me: as of 30 October 2026, Founder is €79.99 and the Atelier writing module is another €39.99, sold separately. There is a free Traveler tier, and Atelier includes 10,000 words to try it, so you can explore before paying. I like that the purchases are one-time payments. But when Writality already includes writing and worldbuilding for free, that is a meaningful difference. If ForgeTales' design and workflow click with you, it is still well worth a look.

Where Writality may fit you better

  • Writers who want drafting and worldbuilding together for free
  • Projects that need maps, kanban, and dialogue tools alongside the manuscript
  • People who want an offline workspace without separate module purchases
