Writality

WHY OFFLINE

For the future

Once you have it downloaded its basically yours. You can keep that version forever. Since it is fully offline and local first you don't have to worry about the internet, about greedy monetisation or about the (solo) company going under.

BRIEF EXPLANATION

Writality is offline-first because writing feels better when it lives on your computer and can leave in formats you understand.

ISSUE

Creative work has a weird permanence problem now. A draft can be emotionally important and still depend on a login screen, a pricing change, a server, or a roadmap written by people you have never met.

THE SOLUTION 🕴

Writality is built as a local-first desktop app. The writing lives close to the writer. Export is part of the deal.

OWNERSHIP

Your work, your files and in your computer

Not much else to say here tbh. I mean, thats about it.

PRIVACY

Private if you want to

No risk of Google and Microsoft or AI companies getting their grubby little hands on your blood sweat and tears.

Although I would still recommend having your files stored in some sort of cloud storage just incase your computer dies or something.

PRACTICAL

The internet must be optional

I am not anti-internet. Obviously. I just don't see why a writing app needs the internet for things that can happen perfectly well on your computer.

Write locally. Organise locally. Export when you want to share or publish. Bish Bash Bosh

QUESTIONS

No bad questions

Why make Writality offline-first?

I feel like most people are wanting to become less tethered to the ever consuming www. But aside from that, so you can write anywhere without worry.

Does offline-first mean no sharing ever?

No, I am actively working on optional tools for sharing. Already support exporting in various formats. Later I will add writing groups. Core functionality is offline though.
