Most of the time I do not begin with a manuscript. I begin with the bit that is ready. A scene. A description. A conversation. Some random idea I jotted down after being inspired by a movie, or song or something. These are the segments. Theycan be as well defined as you like, and if you prefer working in chapters they work for that too.
So then, once you have all these segments. Think of them as little LEGO blocks, you just add them together. You also get other blocks to build your manuscript, like page breaks, spacing and titles. Eventually you get a document that is ready for export and printing.

The segment is the basic unit of writing in Writality. It can be as small as a single line or as big as a whole chapter. You can move them around, connect them to worldbuilding, and eventually put them together into the manuscript.

Yes. Segments can become scenes, sections, parts of chapers, chapters, or even multiple chapters. The world is your oyster.
